Design and Development Of Electic Bike

Objective

To design the frame and other components of the Electric Bike and taking into account the standard specification and rules of the FMAE-Electric Bike and Analyzed the frame under normal loading conditions.

I have designed the Electric Bike considering the lightweight of the bike, which can lead to an increase in the kilometers it can travel in a single charge.

The motivation for this project is based on the fact that in recent years due to fast expansion and rapid industrial development, the number of vehicles has increased drastically. The pollutants, such as carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (HC), produced by motorcycles account for approximately 10% of the total annual amount of pollution emissions. Electric Vehicles have the characteristics of zero pollution and are one the most effective methods to tackle the problem of air pollution.

Implementation

Stage One

Considered all the basics which are required to design a bike. Which include,

  1. Kinematics -

   2. Motorcycycle Equilibrium -

Stage Two

After determining all the vehicle kinematics and dynamics, I performed calculations for the Electric drive trains, Vehicle transmission, and Braking system.

  • For calculating the electric drive train, things required are the bike's mass, which is 200Kg, and all the resistance forces acting on the bike in a motion. For this project, the Chain drive is used according to gear ratio as it provides the best overall power transmission efficiency from the motor to wheels.

  • For vehicle transmission, to amplify the motor's power and achieve the desired velocity of the bike, a reduction in gear ratio is made. To achieve more speed reduction, done is less, and to achieve more torque, there is more reduction.

  • For Braking system calculation, the Things required are the load transfer on the bike. To find load transfer, we need to find the bike's center of gravity, which can be calculated by the software, online calculator, and practical experiment.

Result

Successfully designed and assembled a complete Electric Bike (excluding the chain drive, braking system, and some other components) with the help of Solidworks software. And was able to keep the bike's weight under 200kg by using the material of the frame as mild steel.
